Converse patří mezi americké firmy, které vyrábí sportovní obuv a oblečení. Již od roku 1908 patří mezi oblíbené tenisky s dobře známým logem ve tvaru pěticípé hvězdy. Zpočátku byla firma zaměřená na výrobu galoší a další pracovní gumové obuvi. Jednalo se převážně o sezónní zboží a tak firma hledala další způsob, jak zajistit zisky po celý rok.
