Yeezys for $20? This is the new KANYE!
It's been a long time since we talked about streetwear, but it's time to focus on something interesting. And by that I mean Kanye West's latest controversial drop. Ye, as he calls himself, has unleashed fashion mayhem with his $20 Yeezys and new album Vultures 1 .
Let's start with the most shocking: Kanye West has priced all items in his Yeezy shop, including the newly released Yeezy Pods, at $20. His philosophy of unification and price reduction is well known. He had previously complained that Gap did not want to cut prices to maintain its image. But for the new merch, it turns out he charges up to $50 for shipping. The new Yeezy Pods will cost you a nice 471 CZK, but shipping can be twice as much.
The world-shaking drop coincided with his new album Vultures 1, the first in a three-album Vultures series. Here, Kanye collaborates with artists like India Love, his daughter North West, Freddie Gibbs, Nipsey Hussle, YG, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Rich The Kid, Chris Brown, Lil Durk and Bump J. That's a list, right? And that's not to mention the controversial album cover featuring a figure in a hockey mask, which was originally white but Kanye later changed to black. What does this mean? We don't know.
The new Yeezy Pods are the first sneaker release since the collaboration with adidas ended, and we wonder if they'll catch on as reviews have been very mixed so far. Kanye also has other pieces on offer, such as the WET tank, WET romper, t-shirts and long sleeves with the Vultures 1 logo, even Vultures pants. Interestingly, most of these pieces were made in one cut, which did keep the cost down, but we'll see how it looks in practice. I guess Kanye really wants fashion to be accessible to everyone.
The day after the drop, Ye posted on Instagram that he sold over 260,000 YZY Pods in one day and earned over $19 million. Crazy and genius at the same time.
Kanye is undoubtedly one of the biggest personalities in the fashion industry, and his Vultures 1 only confirms that.
